Installing Firmware in T9216 Laser Printers

If you need to upgrade firmware in T9216 laser printers, you will need to know how this should be done.

The firmware is supplied as a binary file for uploading to the printer flash memory and this firmware can be obtained from the Trade Partners area of the Tally UK Web Site.

First, the printer must be prepared to accept the binary file. To do this, connect the printer to a PC via the parallel interface. Ensure that the PC is running in DOS mode and not in a DOS Window. Press and hold the DEMO button on the printer whilst powering the printer to ON. An indication that the preparation has been successful is given by the upper three printer leds flashing in a cyclical order.

Now, from the PC, copy the binary file to the parallel port with the /b option. During the upload process, the three flashing leds will change to a single flashing led which will flash slowly. Do not be concerned if, during the upload process, the flashing led stops and another one starts flashing. This is to be expected.

At the completion of the firmware upload, the three leds will flash in synchronism with each other. When this happens, you can turn the printer power to OFF.

And finally, there is a small file which we call an ID file which will set the Tally default values into the printer. Primarily, this will set the default paper size to A4 instead of LETTER. The ID file can be downloaded by clicking here. This file is to be copied with the /b option from the DOS prompt with the printer powered ON and sitting idle in an Online condition.
