Printer Goes Off-Line With Some Paper Types

Certain types of stationery can cause the Optical Sensor on the MT83 and MT84 printers to give a paper out condition. This causes the printer to go into an Off-line mode. Types of paper that can cause this are dark- or multicoloured- backed stationery or stationery that has a thick dark bar across the entire page.

If this is happening to your printer there are two solutions:-

  1. You can install the tractor unit into the pull position. This enables a mechanical, as opposed to optical, paper out sensor. This sensor should only give paper out conditions when the paper is physically removed from the printer. How to fit the tractor's in the pull position are given on page 1-28 in the Operator's Manual.
  2. You can disable the paper out push tractor condition by disabling the optical sensor altogether. This is done by turning the PE Detect item 28 in the printer's menu to off. BEWARE if this is done the printer will not detect that paper has actually run out and therefore will carry on printing. Therefore a close eye must be kept on the printer when it is about to run out of paper so that this does not happen.
